18 School News COLLEGEPARKPAPER.COM MARCH 2016 Princeton Elementary Princeton hosts students from China On January 28 Princeton Elementary hosted 60 international students visiting from Beijing, China. Shijia Primary school selected Princeton as their school to visit while they were in the United States. Our visitors toured the campus, created arts and crafts activities and had a traditional American lunch. They shadowed our Princeton 5th grade students throughout the day learning what we do here in the U.S. Princeton was honored to be a part of this amazing day. 5th Grade Oration Contest Congratulations to the winners of our Oration Contest, The Modern Woodsman of America Speech Contest. This year the theme was to speak about “Hunger in America.” The speech had to be between 3 and 5 minutes and everyone in the 5th grade competed. The top two students from each of the four classes were chosen and they competed in front of judges on Friday, February 12. Congratulations to the winners...1st place Braden Sinn, 2nd place Neah Montgomery and 3rd place Emma Krens. Great job to all the students who prepared speeches and to the other presenters Jake Kelvington, Kaya Wingerson, Ashley Coats, Declan Toffetti, Reese Olivero, Riley Olivero, and Andrew Cook. Rock and Bowl to fund 5th grade trip to Washington The 5th graders have been working hard to raise money for their upcoming trip to Washington DC. On Friday, February 5 Princeton reserved Aloma Bowl with a theme of Epic 80s night. It was a huge success and as many as 139 people attempted to show off their bowling skills. What a fun night! Run Club track meet at EHS Instead of the regular running club on February 3 our kids meet at the Edgewater high school track to meet up with the head track coach and a few Edgewater students so the children could participate in their first mini track meet. Events included the long jump, the 100, 200 and 400 meter races. The kids had a blast and a huge thank you to the Edgewater High School track coach and runners. There’s no place like home Mrs. Litteral and the talented children at Princeton have started rehearsing for the production of the Wizard of Oz. There will be 2 performances that will be held in our Auditorium Tuesday, March 15 and Thursday, March 17th at 1:30 and 7:30. Family Science Night The Orlando Science Center hosted Princeton Elementary families and guests Thursday, February 11 for a night of education and enjoyment. They saw a live show of Super Science along with a film on Animalopolis and Humpback Whales. Also on exhibit was the new Wizard of Oz. This was a free event to explore all the Science Center has to offer.
