Community 19 MAY 2016 COLLEGEPARKPAPER.COM By Andrea Kudlacz The new fiscal year of College Park Partner- ship has begun and last year we had a record- breaking year. One of the most exciting things of the year was our partnership with Florida Hospital and the City of Orlando for Pink Out College Park in October. Having the pink banners, pink curbs, pink lights in the trees and the pink crosswalks and ribbons in the street was amazing. If women did not rush out to get mammograms when they saw all the pink, and if people did not see the importance of purchasing the pink flamingos to fund scholarships for women who are unable to afford mammograms, they were not paying attention. It was a great partnership that we feel should be repeated year after year. Another highlight of the year was having a 20-foot-plus tall tree, children’s art and a mailbox for Letters to Santa in Albert Park we had throughout the holiday season. There are so many people to be thanked for that effort, but special thanks to Jenn and Rob Legenhausen for picking out the biggest tree in Florida, CJ Hig- ginbotham for sponsoring the art contest, Anne Rogers for sponsoring the mailbox and Kim Foy for pulling it all together. We even had a couple of pop-up family events in the park throughout the holidays thanks to a collaborative partner- ship with Grace Church. In March we hosted the annual Awards Social to honor volunteers who went above and beyond during the previous year. The CPP volunteer award winners this year were: Outstanding Board Member: Emily Brown Outstanding Committee Member: Sarah Smeenge Team Player of the Year: Michael Kara’s Re/ Max Exclusive Collection Partner of the Year: Maggie Ambruster of Em- brace Home Loans Sponsor of the Year: Anne Rogers Realty Group Rookie Member of the Year: Brian Spain Spirit of College Park: Debbie Goetz Volunteer of the Year: CJ Higginbotham. For the first time ever, there was a special Legacy Award given to Deena Breed of Orange Cycle for her eight years of dedication to the College Park Partnership, serving as a charter member of the CPP board. This year at the Orlando Main Street Awards, CPP won the best promotion award for Holiday on the Drive, and we were listed in the International Directory of Jazz Festivals for College Park JazzFest. The upcoming year has some new plans, such as extending façade grants to member businesses to improve curb appeal, going bigger with more Christmas décor throughout the holidays, and continuing to make College Park JazzFest a big- ger and better event each year that will continue to get national and international attention. The Partnership is going to be doing more market- ing of College Park as a destination to visitors to Central Florida from around the world and to Central Floridians outside of College Park, because we have so much to offer with amaz- ing restaurants, retail boutiques and shops and health and beauty spas and services. And, our beautifully maintained and challenging Dubs- dread Golf Course is the only public golf course in the City of Orlando. Look for not one, but two weeks of Main Street Restaurant Weeks this summer with great deals at your favorite restau- rants, not only in College Park, but also in all 8 Main Street districts throughout Orlando. If you have time to volunteer, please consider joining a CPP committee that matches your in- terest. Committee information and contacts can be found on the website at www.collegepark- partnership.com. You can also join as a residen- tial member or a business member by visiting the website.
